AI art is getting wackier/scarier/more amazing by the day, it seems. My prompt for this was "Captain Kirk goes over Niagara Falls in a barrel, oil painting in the style of DaVinci." This result is not at all what I had in mind, and yet it's somehow arresting. (Interpret that adjective however you see fit.) Made with Stable Diffusion's DreamStudio.
I'm going to be blunt: da Vinci would not have used any of the techniques that the AI is using. The biggest contributor to Leonardo da Vinci's success as a painter was that he made his own pigments and paints, and he took his formulae to his grave. He, like any painter who aspires to greatness, used many layers of thin, translucent paint to gradually build his tones. The AI on the other hand, is using bold blocks of colour right out of the tube, and a lot of rag blends. MEDIOCRE. Or to make a da Vinci pun, MEDI-OCHRE.
ReplyDeleteWell, full disclosure, I'm burned up with jealousy that the AI seems to have designed the absolute best Star Trek uniform. That blows me away, even if Kirk does look like a young David Letterman. It's getting crazy out there now.
