I'm a Professional Photographer, Apparently

This enigmatic photo appeared in an Ottawa Citizen story here.

The photo is credited to yours truly. I do have vague memories of taking the shot; I'm pretty sure it's Jim Hole's hand. We were writing an article on the proper pruning cut. How the shot wound up in the Citizen, WITH credit, is a mystery to me.

Good to see you back and blogging! Susan.

Hmmm, tough to see if it's being done properly, but a cut should've been done on the bottom of the branch first - this stops the falling branch from peeling a huge strip of bark down the tree. Paul T.

You're quite right, Paul, an undercut is required, and we definitely pointed it out in the original article. If I remember correctly, the first cut being made is just preliminary; before sawing all the way through, you must make a cut on the underside of the branch to prevent the stripping problem.
